What does €300,000 buy you in Spain?

For this budget you mainly buy an apartment with one or two bedrooms on the Spanish coast, usually a new build in a complex with a shared pool. There are townhouses with their own terrace or garden too, especially in the south of the Costa Blanca. Most homes in this price range are currently in Pilar de la Horadada, Mijas Costa, Las Lagunas de Mijas and Vélez-Málaga.

Allow for the costs on top of the price

On a new build you pay 10% VAT (IVA) plus stamp duty (AJD); on a resale home, transfer tax (ITP). With the notary, land registry and lawyer on top, that comes to roughly 8 to 13% on top of the price, depending on the region. A new-build apartment of €280,000 therefore costs you about €316,000 in total. Spanish banks usually lend non-residents 60 to 70% of the price; you pay the rest and the costs yourself. Everything is set out in buying costs in Spain.
